Commander

Roger Stevens

Military Affiliation and years of service: 7 1/2 years in United States Air Force, 1968 – 1975.

Military occupation and specialties: Weather Observer and Weather Forecaster

Duty assignments / locations: Basic Training at Amarillo AFB, Texas, Weather Observer School at Chanute AFB, Illinois.  Assigned as a Weather Observer at Hurlburt Field, Florida, from January 1969 to March 1971, then loaned to the Army and assigned as a Weather Observer for a Chinook Helicopter Company at Camp Humphreys, Korea from March 1971 to April 1972.  Returning from Korea, attended Weather Forecaster School at Chanute AFB, Illinois.  Assigned as a Weather Forecaster at the Air Force Global Weather Center at Offutt AFB, Nebraska, forecasting severe weather situations in the Asian Theater from January 1973 until December 1975

Civilian occupation:  37 years at Bath Iron Works, 1976 – 2013, joining as an apprentice in the Pipe Fitting trade becoming a 1st Class Mechanic, Trade Planner and eventually a Trade Supervisor.  Transferred to the Yard Planning Department in 2002 and retired as a Planning Manager.

Interests:  Life member of the VFW.  Currently the Post Commander and Adjutant of Post 2197 in Topsham since 2014, also the Commander and Adjutant for Maine District 7 of the VFW since 2014.  Also belong to American Legion post 202, in Topsham.  Non-veteran interests include life membership in SAM (Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine), life membership in NRA (National Rifle Association), and membership in Wildlife Forever, a conservation group run by sportsmen.

Hobbies: Fishing, Hunting, Fly Tying, Camping.

Charles James “Jim” Lentz

Duty assignments/locations: Naval Training Center-Millington, TN- Oct 1967-Jan 1968. AFUN “P” school, AMFU “A” school, ADR “A” school. Naval Air Station Brunswick, ME- Feb 1968-Apr 1970. Operations Maintenance Dept including Search & Rescue. Naval Air Station Norfolk, VA- FLETACSUPPRO FORTY VRC-40. Naval Reserve manpower Center, Bainbridge, MD- Jan 1971-June 1973.

Civilian occupation: Retired from the United States Postal Service serving in the Management Sectional Center- Northern VA- 1971-1975, U.S.P.S., Brunswick, ME, Woolwich, ME- OIC-1984, W. Southport, ME- OIC-1986, and the financial unit aboard the Naval Air Station Brunswick, ME- 1988-2004 when he retired from the U.S.P.S. Graduated from New Hampshire College with a B.S. in Business Administration in 1981.

Interests: Began volunteering at the Midcoast Veterans Center in 2018. Married with three children and six grandchildren.

Hobbies: Hunting, Fishing, Boating.

Squadron Assignments: Brunswick VP26, VP10 (Deployed to: Cuba, Sicily, Spain, Iceland, the Azores, Newfoundland, Bermuda, Thailand Philippines, Japan, England, Portugal, Key West FL, Ascension Island and Diego Garcia BIOT.
